Are you in the process of planning your next vacation? If so, one of the most important decisions you need to make is where you are going to stay. Should you choose a hotel, a B&B, a villa, or something different entirely? Do you opt for self-catering or would full board be better? Read on to discover some top tips.

Location, location, location!

What do you plan to do when you are on vacation? Do you want to visit famous spots within the city? Do you plan on leaving the hotel every day and exploring? If so, you need to ensure that your accommodation is located in an area where these activities are accessible. However, if you want some privacy, you could opt for accommodation a bit further afield.

Read reviews

It is so important to read reviews that have been left by those that have already stayed at the hotel or apartment in question before. This is made incredibly easy today thanks to websites such as TripAdvisor. You can easily read comments and check out photographs that have been taken by other guests, rather than the generic ones seen on travel websites and in brochures. Take the time to go through as many reviews as possible. Try to find comments that have been left by people in a similar position to you. For example, if you are travelling as a family, look for reviews left by other parents. Also, try to find comments left by people that visited in the same month you intend to go. This will ensure the feedback is more relevant to you.

Carefully consider your wants

What do you hope to gain from the accommodation? Do you want to stay in a luxury hotel that provides you with a five-star experience? Would you prefer to stay in a B&B so that you can enjoy a more comfortable and homely trip? Or, why not consider something completely unusual for memories you will never forget? Accommodation options are a lot more diverse than you may realise. Consider glass igloos in Finland or log cabins in the mountains for a truly unique experience.

What board should you choose?

Next, you need to consider what board you are more comfortable with. Do you want to opt for self-catering accommodation? This can be more cost effective, as you will get a much cheaper price on the accommodation itself and you will be in full control of the grocery shopping. However, if you would prefer the convenience and luxury of having meals prepared for you, consider all-inclusive. This also makes it easier for you to manage your money, as everything is paid for upfront. If you want something in the middle of both of these options, bed and breakfast or half-board or worth thinking about.

Facilities

Last but not least, facilities are important to consider before you make your decision. This will depend on the length of your stay. For instance, if you are going on a long break, you will definitely require a washing machine and a kitchen as a minimum. Also, if you have children, you’ll want to ensure there is plenty to keep them entertained.
