Top 3 Days Out and Activities in Cyprus

Think Cyprus is only for beach lovers and sunbathers? Think again. This wonderful island in the Mediterranean Sea has a lot more to offer than just gorgeous beaches. Whether you prefer thrill and excitement or sitting back and relaxing, the fantastic range of landscape lends itself to a wide variety of activities. Here are my top picks for fun days out for any holidays in Cyprus.

Waterparks

waterparks in CyprusIf the searing sun gets too hot and you need to cool down, a waterpark is the perfect choice for the whole family whilst having fun too. Cyprus is blessed with not one, not two, but three outstanding waterparks. Water World, located near Ayia Napa, is one of the largest themed waterparks in the world measuring 80,000 square metres. With 25 international awards, Water World is largely considered the most popular in Cyprus. Based on Greek mythology, the theme runs throughout the park and adds a little fun to the rides themselves. Drop to Atlantis, one of the park’s main attractions, is a unique slide that incorporates light, sound and visual effects (the only waterslide in the world to do so) and provides a fully immersive experience. Riding in a three person bullet, you’ll twist and turn before speeding down a steep drop and creating a big splash as you reach the bottom! And there are of course pools and a playground for younger visitors and those who prefer to relax.

Boat Trips

Explore Cyprus’ beautiful coastlines with a boat trip. The Paphos coastline in particular is picturesque so remember to take a camera with you. While boats can vary, I recommend a glass bottom boat which allows you to explore the underwater sea world without getting wet! The whole family could play finding Nemo! Also look out for the boat trip which visits the Vera K shipwreck. The family can have a great time at Jolly Roger, a pirate themed ship that sails towards the stunning Coral Bay beach. You’ll be able to take a dip, have a barbeque lunch and be entertained by the pirates. For couples, the Wavedancer cruise boat offers a romantic evening of entertainment, delicious dinner and to top the night off, a fireworks display against a crisp Cyprus night sky.

Explore the Landscape

Those who only spend time on Cyprus’ beaches will not be aware of the rugged yet striking and natural landscape the inward land offers. This wonderful contrast in beauty is best seen on wheels. Those looking to get their heart racing and flex their muscles can explore the landscape by bike. For a real challenge of physical fitness that is rewarded with unique and panoramic views of the island, cycle up the rugged terrain of the Troodos mountains. If that sounds a little too tiring and you’re looking for a more gentle way to take in the scenery, cycle along the coastal paths and admire the dazzling blue Mediterranean Sea. If you prefer to sit back and not break a sweat, a jeep safari is perfect where your tour guide will drive you around the island whilst noting points of interest.
